through the denser parts of san francisco, as someone who doesn't have a car i have and millions of us have wasted countless hours trying to get through our downtown corridor but i want to take a moment to thank the most important folks who are not here with us and that is the people of san francisco. for years before i joined the board of supervisors i served on with many volunteers the community advisory group to the central subway. with countless volunteers from the bay view, from visitation valley, from mission bay, south of market, union square, and of course thousands of residents and leaders from chinatown who went to countless public meetings provided tens of thousands of signatures, and stood for years to work extremely hard for world class transportation into the heart of our city, but we know we are building the central subway not just based on our history but for our future. by the year 2040 we will have 100,000 new households and 200,000 new workers and thousands of new daily car trips. we have to prepare for the future. let me close with a couple of quick thoughts. first

where is our taxpayer money being used? these are services that should already be in the city budget. we should not have to use bond money or extra taxes to pay for them. we are being asked to pay, we are being asked to pay tra taxes while tweeter receives a tax break. hidden in the tax break deal for twitter was also their own muni bus that went directly just to their location as well as a police substation in their area. those services are paid for with taxpayer money. tax payers are required to foot the bill for this, although twitter has enough money where it could also contribute something to the community for helping us provide those services in that area. in district five, i believe that there are three main areas that need a lot of attention but i would like to work on. we need affordable housing, not just low-income housing but affordable housing for people in san francisco with average incomes. we also need to improve muni and public transportation as well as improve public safety. with affordable housing, i would

so, could we concentrate residential uses north of that and leave that more for the pdr uses, commercial uses, nighttime entertainment, that type of thing. all the residential enclaves in that part of the area. it's hard to see on this map, but many of the alley ways will run through and stop. arterial streets interrupt them. we wanted to create connectionses between those biggar tierial streets. these little alley way neighborhoods begin to connect to one another so you don't have to walk several hundred feet to a major intersection and then back in order to go from one of these alley ways to another. you see quite a number on folsom street, streets like rausch and so on that we wanted to connect across the freeway bridge. so, here's our plan. as i said, the devil is in the details in terms of implementation. implementing this is going to require cooperation of a lot of city agencies, mta, planning department, transportation and so on. we've had great cooperation with transportation authority as jim mentioned working with chester fong. they extended this kind of idea of reclaiming alley
